SAVI Systems presents the Dali Opticon 5 Small Floorstanding Hi-Fi / Home Theatre Speakers
Dali speakers have been around since the 1980's - and have always been respected for delivering good, realistic Hi-Fi sound that is easy to live with for the long term. DALI stands for Danish Audiophile Loudspeaker Industries, a Danish manufacturer of high-end speakers. The Opticon series of speakers slot in as a new range between the easy going, cheaper and popular Zensor range and the higher end, well reviewed Epicon Hi-Fi speaker range. Consequently, the Opticon series have a fair bit of trickle down technology from their more expensive Epicon relatives. The aim (and success) of Dali speakers is to always deliver a sound and speaker design that slots into a standard home and are relatively unfussy about things such as which amplifier is used or where to put the speakers.
The DALI OPTICON 5 is a small floorstanding profile Hi-Fi speaker, designed to be placed close to the wall with no toe in. The Opticon 5 is an exceptionally stylish performance powerhouse thanks to the inclusion of the Dali 6½ inch low-loss Wood Fibre Woofer and coupled to the Hybrid Soft Dome/Ribbon Tweeter Array. The Dali Opticon 5 is the first in the Opticon range to feature the Hybrid Tweeter Array and it really helps deliver a wider soundstage that images very realistically as well as having a long term listening tone that is designed to live with for many years and deliver an unfatiguing sound. DALI has a long and well proven tradition for using a hybrid tweeter module. It is a combination of a dome tweeter working together with a ribbon tweeter for an amazing rendering of the high frequencies, and a dispersion of high frequency sounds that outperform nearly all other tweeter technologies.
The Hybrid Tweeter Module features an extremely smooth and wide horizontal dispersion - one of our sound design trademarks. Even the detailing of the faceplate of the tweeter module is designed for optimal horizontal dispersion.
The ribbon tweeter features a broad frequency band and superb dispersion in the higher frequencies. Gently rolled in above 10 kHz, the ribbon reaches full contribution from 14 kHz to well beyond 30 kHz, which makes it perfect for HiRes music or movie soundtracks. Equipped with a rear chamber fitted with rigid bracing, the ribbon is shielded from the disruptive influence of the woofers. The DALI ribbon tweeter is a true master in horizontal distribution of high frequencies, and a superb partner for the soft dome tweeter’s unique ability to reproduce frequencies from 2 kHz upwards.
The Opticon 5 is hand assembled in DALI's factory in Denmark and, unlike many other loudspeaker manufacturers, all of the components in the Opticon 5 are also manufactured in-house. Each driver has unique elements only available in DALI loudspeakers. The midrange/bass driver uses DALI's SMC Magnet (Soft Magnetic Compound) instead of more traditional hard magnets. SMC has the unique ability to deliver high magnetic conductivity coupled with very low electrical conductivity which offers a significant lowering of the coloration of the reproduced sound, especially over hours of use as the magnet system heats up. The tweeter in the OPTICON 5 is the aforementioned soft dome / ribbon hybrid array. All of these design choices have been made with the realisation that many people now listen to a wider range of music and movies and TV shows than ever before, and so a speaker that is good for Hi-Fi should also be good for Home Theatre use too. In a nutshell, the Dali Opticon 5 is engineered to sound great, perform above expectations, and to continue to do so reliably and fuss free for many years whether used in a 2 channel HiRes Hi-Fi system or as part of a multi speaker surround sound home theatre system. Being a compact floorstander (around 90cm tall) enables the Opticon 5 to slot into small to medium rooms and look and sound great whilst doing so.
